Stereophile - Kalman Rubinson
Krell Foundation

"I have no hesitation in recommending the Krell Foundation; its inherently excellent sound quality, the flexibility of its configurations, and its expanding capabilities make it competitive with cost-no-object pre-pros. "

Krell Foundation

"Two weeks, 15 movies and copious pages of notes later I cannot find a single sonic or operational foible with Krell's 'entry-level' separate."

HiFi Critic - Martin Colloms
Krell Connect

"It certainly showed traditional Krell strengths in its bold, muscular and extended bass lines. Midrange dynamics were fine, and allied to very good detail retrieval and spacious, well focused stereo images with fine depth. The reproduction has a very good sense of power and scale..."

"It has a generally upbeat nature, with a forward propulsive nature, as if eager to spill out the continuing musical notes. Image focus was crisp over the whole frequency range and over a wid e span of material from classical to rock. The icing on the cake was the permissible direct connection of the Connect to a balanced input power amp, ...which lifted the score of this well priced streamer/DAC to an audiophile 173 marks."

Stereophile Magazine

Krell Cipher:
Its aircraft-grade aluminum case is available in silver or black, and has rounded edges and slotted sides for a graceful appearance. ...the Cipher uses a pair of 24-bit/192kHz DACs, which deliver higher current to the analog stages and expand the dynamic range by 3dB.

"The Cipher excelled at "revealing the finest subtleties of a musical passage, untangling the knottiest complexities, and showering light on the tonal colors of a voice, an instrument, or an ensemble,"  full article

Krell Evolution 707:
The beefy, impressively built Evolution 707...includes Krell's Automatic Setup/EQ and provides single-ended, balanced, and CAST connectors for 12 output channels, including seven main channels, four subwoofers, and an additional center-channel. It had a forward, dramatic, and detailed sound with "devastatingly big and tight bass," said KR. "It is as great-sounding a digital processor as it is an analog preamp."  full article

S-550i Integrated Amplifier

"...was as satisfyingly real as one could hope to experience.", writes Ken Kessler about the S-550i integrated amplifier in the July issue Hi Fi News. This is the first published review of the S-550i and it received the magazine's Outstanding Product status. Please see below for more highlights and links to the full review.

"Without hesitation, I nominate the S-55Oi as a perfect choice for those who want unbridled power yet will not or cannot house two components. It is a beast of an amp, such that I think I've found something currently available to drive even Scintillas. Yes, that kind of beast." "This was a solid-state amplifier free of the brittle, of the glassy, of the jarring." "lt was a perfect, seamless, Spectorian wall of sound, stretching from wall to wall, rather than throbbing as a round mass in the centre." "The sound of this minimalist recording, of a voice I have heard from but two feet away, was as satisfyingly real as one could hope to experience." "... the Krell remain collected, unruffled, even suave - if an amplifier can exhibit such a trait."

Evolution 2250e

"Extraordinarily controlled in the bass, dynamic to a fare-thee-well, transparently precise into the very tips of its hair and tonally neutral... these were all impressive hard skills" "High resolving power, stupendous micro dynamics, background calm and brilliant image focus were clear highlights."

"When it came time to harness the full potential of my Thiel's CS3.7 woofers, the German monos by contrast seemed to actually get a bit winded. And the Krell even was superior at fully differentiating this heaving and teeming low-bass dimension. Hat off."

"The low bass was ideally precise, neutral and haute-cuisine correct. A very good start. Tonal neutrality extended to the midband and highs. Neither romantically flavored, warm or softened nor lean and overtly fresh."

HiFi Plus
Krell Phantom II Preamplifier & Evolution 402E Power Amplifier

"There is a perception that big solid-state (as in Krell) means steely sounding, but this has the opposite effect; it's inviting, almost analogue-like in its presentation, with a top end that goes on forever and sounds lovely doing just that. ...this presentation just extends naturally to the upper limits of both ears and speakers."

"...And to listen to a big Krell amp in 2013 is to reacquaint yourself with the shock you had when you first heard what a big Krell can do."

"The Phantom II ... it's an excellent preamp, exceedingly quiet and exquisitely detailed to boot. And the two work really well together. "

Heimkino Magazine, Germany
Foundation - 7.1 Channel AV Processor

"Super fine and detailed, the Foundation made the instruments appear on a deeper stage and at the same time experience Al Jarreau's vocal artistry to the fullest."

"The fine pins and needles on the skin where get even more intense, when the Foundation played the first scenes of "Battleship" and "Django Unchained" where it reveals all of its capability repertoire: ranging from extremely delicate to smashing, the processor was able to let the listener enjoy all aspects of home cinema in the finest sound quality."

"The Foundation offers Stereo and Multi Channel par excellence and absolute home cinema delicacy. I am convinced, if you listen to the Foundation for the very first time, you will experience that special tingling feeling, and realize, what is possible in your home cinema with the Foundation."
